Who does what: you vs V Star
1. Call V Star Roofing
You
Call and set up a free inspection appointment.
V Star Roofing
We examine, evaluate, and document all damage to your property, then tell you whether filing a claim is advisable.
2. File a claim
You
Call your insurance company's claims department. Tell them the type of damage, such as hail or wind, and the date of loss. Tell them V Star Roofing examined the property. Write down your claim number.
V Star Roofing
We receive your claim number for reference.
3. Adjuster meeting
You
An insurance adjuster contacts you to schedule a visit. Our published process notes this usually happens within 48 hours, but timing depends on your insurer. Tell the adjuster V Star is your contractor and you want us present. Confirm the date with us.
V Star Roofing
We meet the adjuster and review damage, measurements, pricing, and any code upgrade requirements needed to restore your property to its condition before the storm.
4. Insurance summary
You
You receive a Loss Summary Report and your first payment, called the ACV (actual cash value) payment. Review it with your V Star contact. Choose your repairs and products.
V Star Roofing
We review the summary with you to confirm it is complete and accurate.
5. Professional roof repair
You
Nothing for you to do. We handle this step.
V Star Roofing
We complete the work. Most roof replacements take one day.
- Remove the old shingles. We remove all existing old shingles. Discards go into a dump trailer and are hauled to an approved landfill.
- Repair the decking. We replace or repair bad decking or 1x6 boards, whichever applies to your roof.
- Ice and water shield. We install ice and water shield to protect sloped roofs from wind-driven rain and ice dam water backup.
- Underlayment. We apply underlayment, asphalt felt or synthetic, as building codes and shingle manufacturers require.
- New shingles. We apply shingles, starting at the eaves and working upward.
- Flashing. We apply flashing around chimneys, stack vents, and pipes to direct water away from seams and joints.
- Ventilation. We install ventilation at the peak so warm, humid attic air escapes.
- Cleanup. We clean up the surrounding area so it is free of nails and discarded materials.
6. Claim completion
You
Nothing for you to do. We handle this step.
V Star Roofing
We send the final invoice with any supplements to your insurer. This releases remaining withheld funds, called Recoverable Depreciation.
7. Final payment and warranty
You
Nothing for you to do. We handle this step.
V Star Roofing
After your insurer's final payment, we give you warranty information for the products used.
You take part in 4 of 7 steps. V Star Roofing is involved in all 7.
Coverage, approval, and payment amounts depend on your insurance company and your policy. V Star Roofing cannot guarantee a claim outcome.
